I studied sculpture at the Swansea College of Art before spending my working life in secondary education in Cheshire and on the Wirral.
Now retired I am beginning to develop a body of work that is inspired by the Welsh and Shropshire countryside, where I spend perhaps too much time walking the dogs and cycling.
The work is hand built, using large slabs of Earthstone clay. Presently, I am trying to bring more colours into my work and less texture. I rarely plan the overall shape of the forms, instead relying on a response to the way the slab roller forms the basic slabs of clay. However, in the back of my mind are still the shapes and colours often found in ancient standing stones and on old, long forgotten buildings.
I also make slip ware platters and dishes which are freely painted with coloured slips and covered with a clear glaze.
